2016考研英语翻译解析：比较结构（二）

不同于高考和四六级，考研英语往往将一些考点设置在某一基本词汇的引申义上，而非其基本含义。所以，这在无形中就增加了英语阅读和理解的难度。下面就带领大家一起来解析一下考研英语翻译中常见的比较结构，看看它们在翻译前和翻译后是如何发生化学反应的。
　　1. rather than和other than
　　这两个词组看起来长的很像，很容易混淆，但是它的含义确具有天壤之别。rather than是“而不是;宁可...也不愿”的含义;而other than则是“除了，不同于”。如：
　　①I would die rather than surrender.我宁愿死也不投降
　　②There’s nobody here other than me.这个地方除了我之外，就没有人。
　　2. would rather than和would rather to
　　这两个词组虽然只有一词只差，但意义却完全不同。would rather than是“会，而不是”的含义，而would rather to则是“宁愿”的含义。比如：
　　①I would rather die than marry you. 我宁愿死也不会嫁给你。
　　②I would rather die to marry you.我宁愿死也要嫁给你。
　　3. less A more B
　　遇到这一句型短语，我们只要要记住一点就行了，即跟在less后面的就是否定的对象，跟在more后面的是肯定的对象。所以，less A more B就是否定的A，肯定的B，即“与其说A，不如说B”这个含义。如：
　　Interest in historical methods has arisen less through external challenge to the validity of history as an intellectual discipline and more from internal quarrels among historians themselves.对历史方法的兴趣，与其说是起源于对历史有效性的外部挑战，倒不如说是起源于历史学家们内部的争论。
　　4. not more than和not less than
　　not more than 通常用于数词之前，意为“至多;顶多;不超过”，其意义与at most相同。not less than 意为“不少于、至少”，意思同at least相近。例句：
　　①On the ground lay a peasant boy of not more than seventeen. 地上躺着一个不超过17岁的农家小男孩。
　　②Our school has not less than three thousand students. 我们学校的学生不少于3000人。
