考研英语（一）长难句解析系列——2004年阅读Text1

考研网

　　本文选自《美国新闻与世界报道》，主要讲述在网络求职中个人搜寻代理的好处。全文中在长难句方面，难度较小，多为简单句。下面就其中的典型例句进行分析：
　　【典型例句1】：It’s an interactive feature that lets visitors key in job criteria such as location, title, and salary, then E-mails them when a matching position is posted in the database.
　　【例句解析】：句子主干是：It’s an interactive feature that….，it…that…构成it强调句。then E-mails…和lets…是并列结构。when引导时间状语从句。is posted…是被动语态。
　　【难点点拨】：interactive：交互式的;key in：使固定;It强调句的结构是it…that…。识别时将it和that去掉，看剩下的句子是否还是一个完整的句子，如果还是一个完整的句子，那么这就是it强调句。
　　【例句释义】：它的特点是互动，允许访问者定位求职条件，如工作地点、职位和薪水，资料库出现与个人要求相匹配的工作岗位时，它就会通过电子邮件通知求职者。
　　【典型例句2】：Narrowing your criteria, for example, may work against you: “Every time you answer a question you eliminate a possibility,” says one expert.
　　【例句解析】：句子主干是：Narrowing your criteria…may work against you…。for example为插入语。
　　【难点点拨】：narrow：缩小，使变窄;work against：对…不利，违背;
　　eliminate：排除，淘汰
　　【例句释义】：比如，缩小你的工作要求条件就有可能对你不利。一位专家说：“你每回答一个问题，你就失去了一次机会。”
　　【典型例句3】：Instead, the best strategy is to use the agent as a kind of tip service to keep abreast of jobs in a particular database; when you get E-mail, consider it a reminder to check the database again.
　　【例句解析】：句子主干是：the best strategy is….。不定式to use/keep/check…表示目的。中间的分号，并列连接前后两个分句，后一分句对前一分句作进一步解释。when引导时间状语从句。
　　【难点点拨】：keep abreast of：与…并驾齐驱，了解…的最新情况;particular：特定的，个别的;reminder：提醒，提示
　　【例句释义】：相反，最佳策略是将代理作为一种提示服务，用于及时跟踪某一资料库里的工作岗位信息;你收到电子邮件时，将它当做一种提示，再去查一查资料库。
　　【典型例句4】：When CareerSite’s agent sends out messages to those who have signed up for its service, for example, it includes only three potential jobs -- those it considers the best matches.
　　【例句解析】：句子主干是：it includes only three potential jobs…。When引导时间状语从句。who引导定语从句，修饰those。for example为插入语。破折号起补充说明作用，进一步阐释potential jobs，破折号后those it considers the best matches是potential jobs的同位语。
　　【难点点拨】：sign up：注册，报名参加
　　【例句释义】：比如，求职网代理向注册服务的用户发送信息时，它只提供三个它认为最可能匹配的岗位。
　　【典型例句5】：Some use them to keep a close watch on the demand for their line of work or gather information on compensation to arm themselves when negotiating for a raise.
　　【例句解析】：句子主干是：Some use them to…。or连接两个并列的不定式结构：to keep…or gather，在句中作目的状语。when引导时间状语从句。
　　【难点点拨】：keep a close watch on：密切观察…;line of work：行业;
　　compensation:补偿，报酬;arm：武装，支持
　　【例句释义】：有些人利用搜索代理密切观察本行业的需求，或者搜集有关报酬的信息，以备在增薪谈判时胸有成竹。
　　总之，2005年之后的考研英语真题在长难句方面，难度不大，但对语法知识基本功的考察是一样的。考生需要注意时间状语从句、定语从句、并列结构等高频考点，将其熟练掌握并灵活运用。闲暇时间多阅读当代热点话题，以便做题时理解文章背景知识。
