考研英语（一）长难句解析系列—2004年阅读Text3

　　本文主要讨论了美国的经济发展放慢给各阶层的美国人所带来的影响，并最后总结：总体而言，大部分美国人都持乐观态度，甚至有人可从中获利。全文中在长难句方面，难度居中。作为改革前2004年考研英语试卷的第三篇阅读，句子难度必然会较前面题型有所提升，再加上文中的一些习惯表达，这必然会给考生造成理解上的障碍，以致最终影响做题得分。下面就其中的典型例句进行分析：

　　【例句释义】：我提供了一种当人们想要省钱时就可免去的服务。
　　【典型例句2】：Even before Alan Greenspan’s admission that America’s red-hot economy is cooling, lots of working folks had already seen signs of the slowdown themselves.
　　【例句解析】：本句主干为 lots of working folks had already seen signs。Even before Alan Greenspan’s admission that America’s red-hot economy is cooling是before介词短语作时间状语，修饰主干;其中that America’s red-hot economy is cooling是同位语从句，解释admission的内容。of the slowdown是介词短语作后置定语，修饰signs。themselves：“他们自己”，强调所指代的人。

　　【难点点拨】：mildly：适度地;panicked：恐慌的;prospect：前景;belt-tightening：紧缩开支;
　　【例句释义】：消费者似乎只是有些担心，而非恐慌;很多人说：即使他们在做一些适度的紧缩开支，但是仍然对经济的长期发展持乐观态度。

　　【例句解析】：本句主干为there’s a new gold rush。In Manhattan是介词短语作地点状语，修饰主干。

　　【例句释义】：许多消费者似乎已经受到了股票市场波动的影响，而投资者们现在将这些波动视作经济长期繁荣的必要因素。
