考研英语（一）长难句解析系列——2005年Text 2

　　本文选自2001年6月17日US News & World Report上一篇名为Warming to the Task的文章，主要呼吁政府和社会重视并解决日益严重的全球变暖问题。全文中在长难句方面，难度并不是很大。作为2005年考研英语试卷的第二篇阅读，句子难度虽然较前面题型有所提升，但是仍处于中级难度。阅读做题时只需静下心来，再辅之以词汇和语法基础，即可理解和解题。下面就其中的典型例句进行分析：
　　【典型例句1】：There are upsetting parallels today, as scientists in one wave after another try to awaken us to the growing threat of global warming.
　　【例句解析】：本句主干为There are upsetting parallels today。as scientists in one wave after another try to awaken us to the growing threat of global warming是由as引导的时间状语从句，修饰主干;其中in one wave after another是介词短语作后置定语修饰scientists。
　　【难点点拨】：parallel：类似的事情;in one wave after another：一批接一批的;
　　【例句释义】：随着一批又一批的科学家们试图让我们意识到全球变暖所产生的日益严重的威胁，现在出现了类似的令人沮丧的事情。
　　【典型例句2】：The latest was a panel from the National Academy of Sciences, enlisted by the White House, to tell us that the Earth’s atmosphere is definitely warming and that the problem is largely man-made.
　　【例句解析】：本句主干为The latest was a panel。from the National Academy of Sciences是介词短语作后置定语修饰panel。enlisted by the White House是过去分词短语作后置定语，修饰panel。to tell us that the Earth’s atmosphere is definitely warming and that the problem is largely man-made是不定式短语作宾语补足语，对panel进行解释说明;其中又包含两个that引导的宾语从句，由and连接并列。
　　【难点点拨】：panel：专家小组;enlist：召集;
　　【例句释义】：最近的行动是由白宫召集的来自于国家科学院的专家小组告诉我们，地球的气候确实在变暖，而且这个问题主要是人为造成的。
　　【典型例句3】：But science does provide us with the best available guide to the future, and it is critical that out nation and the world base important policies on the best judgments that science can provide concerning the future consequences of present actions.
　　【例句解析】：本句主干为But science does provide us with the best available guide and it is critical that out nation and the world base important policies on the best judgments，由and连接构成并列句，句一中包含强调结构：does强调谓语动词provide;句二it作形式主语，that out nation and the world base important policies on the best judgments是主语从句。to the future是介词短语作后置定语，修饰guide。that science can provide concerning the future consequences of present actions是由that引导的定语从句，修饰the best judgments。
　　【难点点拨】：available：可获得的;judgement：判断;concerning：关于;
　　【例句释义】：但是科学确实为我们提供了对于未来可能获得的最好的指导。而且至关重要的是：在人类目前的行为对未来可能产生的影响这一问题上，我们的国家和全世界应该将科学所能提供的最佳判断作为制定重要政策的根据。
　　【典型例句4】：Just as on smoking, voices now come from many quarters insisting that the science about global warming is incomplete, and that it’s Ok to keep pouring fumes into the air until we know for sure.
　　【例句解析】：本句主干为voices now come from many quarters。Just as on smoking作比较状语，修饰主干。insisting that the science about global warming is incomplete, and that it’s Ok to keep pouring fumes into the air until we know for sure是现在分词短语作后置定语修饰voices;其中又包含两个that引导的宾语从句，由and连接;that it’s Ok to keep pouring fumes into the air until we know for sure中，又包含until引导的时间状语从句，修饰本宾语从句。

　　【例句释义】：正如吸烟问题那样，来自于许多领域的声音都坚持认为：有关于全球变暖的科学研究是不完善的，而且在确定之前我们仍然可以向大气中排放废气。
　　【典型例句5】：A bill by Democratic Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia, which would offer financial incentives for private industry, is a promising start.
　　【例句解析】：本句主干为A bill is a promising start。by Democratic Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia是介词短语作后置定语，修饰a bill。which would offer financial incentives for private industry是由which引导的定语从句，修饰a bill。
　　【难点点拨】：Democratic Senator：民主党参议员;financial incentive：财政激励;
　　【例句释义】：由西弗吉尼亚州的民主党参议员罗伯特·彼尔德提交的议案将会为私人企业提供财政激励，这是一个不错的开端。
　　总之，由于本文中对定语后置、宾语从句、主语从句、状语等知识点考查较多，因此对此大家课下需要多多复习。此外，如果时间充足的话，可以多读一些外国核心期刊文章，如《美国新闻与世界报道》、《经济学人》等，积累英语国家新闻中常用到的表达。
