考研英语（一）长难句解析系列——2007年翻译

　　本文选自有关法律的一本专著A Sourcebook of Canadian Media Law《加拿大传媒法原始资料》，主要讲述加拿大新闻工作记者对本国法律法规不甚了解，作者认为新闻工作记者需要对法律有清晰认识后，才能胜任政治新闻报道的工作。讲述了法律对新闻工作者的重要性。全文中在长难句方面，主要集中于五个划线句子，从句嵌套较少，语法考察点多为高频考点，难度适中。下面就其中的典型例句进行分析：

　　【难点点拨】：preserve：独占的事物
　　【例句释义】：传统上，在加拿大的高等学府中，学习法律被认为是律师的专门工作，而不是一个受过良好教育人所必备的知识素养。
　　【典型例句2】：On the other, it links these concepts to everyday realities in a manner which is parallel to the links journalists forge on a daily basis as they cover and comment on the news.
　　【例句解析】：句子主干是：it links these concepts to everyday realities…。On the other作状语。In a manner作方式状语。which引导定语从句，修饰manner。on a daily basis 介词短语作状语。as引导时间状语从句。
　　【难点点拨】：is parallel to：与…类似
　　【例句释义】：另一方面，法律又将这些观点(正义、民主和自由)同日常生活实际联系在一起，这同新闻工作者报道和评论新闻时，在日常生活的基础之上将观点同实际情况相结合一样。
　　【典型例句3】：But the idea that the journalist must understand the law more profoundly than an ordinary citizen rests on an understanding of the established conventions and special responsibilities of the news media.
　　【例句解析】：句子的主干是But the idea…。that 引导同位语从句，解释说明idea。more…than..比较结构。of the established conventions and special responsibilities作后置定语，修饰understanding。of the news media作后置定语，修饰the established conventions and special responsibilities。
　　【难点点拨】：profoundly：深刻地，极度地;established：既有的，既定的。
　　【例句释义】：但是新闻工作者必须比普通公民对法律的理解更深刻，这个观点是建立在对新闻媒体既定规范和特定社会责任有深刻认识基础之上的。
　　【典型例句4】：In fact, it is difficult to see how journalists who do not have a clear grasp of the basic features of the Canadian Constitution can do a competent job on political stories.
　　【例句解析】：句子主干是it is difficult to see…。it 为形式主语，真正的主语是后面的不定式。In fact介词短语作状语。how 引导宾语从句。who 引导定语从句，修饰journalists。of the basic features 介词短语作后置定语，修饰grasp。of the Canadian Constitution介词短语作后置定语，修饰features。on political stories作后置定语，修饰job。
　　【例句释义】：事实上，很难想象那些对加拿大宪法的基本特征没有清晰认识的新闻工作者如何胜任政治新闻报道工作。
　　【典型例句5】：While comment and reaction from lawyers may enhance stories, it is preferable for journalists to rely on their own notions of significance and make their own judgments.

　　【例句释义】：虽然律师的评论和反应能够提高报道质量，但是新闻工作者最好能够依赖自己对事件重要性的认识来作出判断。
　　总之，翻译题中多考察状语从句、定语从句、后置定语等高频考点，考生应熟练掌握这些语法考查点。对于一些固定句型和搭配，考生尤其要烂熟于心，能够迅速从复杂的句子中抽出固定搭配，有助于对整个句子进行结构分析。考生在空余时间也可以多阅读一些热点话题，加强对西方国家社会问题的了解，有利于对文章的理解。
