        　　According to a national survey on scientific literacy, nearly 8.5% of
China's total population is scientifically literate in 2018, a 2.3 percentage
point increase compared to 2015.

issues)及其通过科学做决定和解决问题的能力(ability to use science to make decisions and solve
problems)。
        　　中国公民具备科学素质比例近8.5%，这个数字意味着什么?中国科协副主席徐延豪指出，全球30多个科技先行国家(technologically
advanced countries)在进入创新型国家行列(become innovation
powerhouses)的时候，其公民具备较高科学素质的比例最少也要10%(at least 10% of their population is
scientifically literate)。
        　　中国科协常务副主席怀进鹏称，推进公民素质提高，弘扬科学精神，传播科学方法对破除迷信和讹传来说极为重要。这将是一个长期和充满挑战的过程，但我们有信心克服难关。(Improving
