　　定位分析：通过名词和时间词找到定位句：People are absorbed into “a culture of consumption” launched by the 19th-century department stores that offered “vast arrays of goods in an elegant atmosphere. 人们被19世纪的百货商店所发起的大众文化所吸引，这种商店在优雅的环境中提供很多系列的商品。从该句得出信息，百货商店引发了一种大众文化。而D选项却说百货商店owed its emergence to the culture of consumption的出现要归因于大众文化，意思是现有大众文化再有百货商店。这个逻辑与原文正好相反。答案继续往后找：Instead of intimate shops catering to a knowledgeable elite,” these were stores “anyone could enter, regardless of class or background. 这些当店不是迎合知识精英的私密场所，而是任何人都可以进入的，不管你是什么阶级或背景。[C] satisfied the needs of a knowledgeable elite满足了知识精英的需求，与原文冲突。[B] became intimate shops for common consumers成为了普通消费者的私密商店与原文相反。所以只有答案[A] played a role in the spread of popular culture在传播流行文化中起到了重要作用。正好对应第一个定位句，他引起了一种消费文化。概念对应是没有问题的。
