　　全部否定
　　【翻译技巧分析】
　　英语中表示全部否定的单词和词组主要有：never(决不，从来不)，no(没有，不)，not(不，不是)，none(没人，谁都不，没有任何东西)，nobody(没人)，nothing(什么也没有，没有任何事情)，nowhere(没有什么地方)，neither(两者都不)，nor(也没有，也不)，not at all(一点也不)。在英译汉翻译过程中，遇到表示全部否定的词或词组要翻译成表示全部否定的意义。比如：“Our great motherland has never before been so prosperous as it is today.”该句含有“never”表示全部否定，与before一起翻译为“从未”，该句翻译为“我们伟大的祖国从未像今天这样繁荣昌盛”。

　　[分析]
　　(1)句子拆分：It leads the discussion to extremes at the outset: // it invites you to think // that animals should be treated either with the consideration humans extend to other humans or with no consideration at all. 句子主干是：It leads the discussion to extremes at the outset。
　　(2)词义确定： lead：引导;extreme：极端;outset：开头;consideration：关心;extend：给予。
　　(3)参考译文：这种说法从一开始就将讨论引向两个极端，它使人们认为应这样对待动物：要么像对人类自身一样关切体谅，要么完全冷漠无情。
　　(4)技巧点拨：该句含有“no…at all”是完全否定，翻译成表示全部否定的意义“完全不”。

双重否定
　　【翻译技巧分析】
　　双重否定结构是指同一个句子中出现两个否定词，即否定之否定。双重否定表示的意思是肯定的，但比肯定句语气重。通常情况下，翻译成汉语时，可将其翻译成汉语中对应的双重否定，也可翻译成汉语的肯定句。常见的双重否定形式主要有：no…not(没有……不)，without…not(没有……就不)，never (no)…without(每逢……总是，没有……不)，never (no)…but(没有……不)，not (none)…the less(并不……就不)，not (never)…unless(不少于，不亚于，和……一样)，not…any the less(没有……而少做)。

　　[分析]
　　(1)句子拆分：This alone demonstrates // that the television business is not an easy world to survive in, // a fact underlined by statistics // that show // that out of eighty European television networks, no less than 50% took a loss in 1989. 整个句子是一个主句this alone demonstrates和一个that引导的宾语从句，a fact是一个同位语，that引导一个宾语从句。
　　(2)词义确定：alone：单独的，独一 无二的;demonstrate：表明;underline：强调;loss：亏损。
　　(3)参考译文：仅这一点就表明在电视行业里生存并非易事，统计数字尤其说明了这一事实，在80家欧洲电视网中，多达50%在1989年出现亏损。
