    The trial of a German couple accused of brutally raping and killing a
Chinese student has once again sparked public concern over the safety of
overseas Chinese.
    对于德国一对情侣残忍奸杀一名中国留学生的审讯再次引发了公众对海外华人安全的关注。
    The hearing, which took place on Nov. 25, investigated claims that
21-year-old Sebastian F. and 20-year-old Xenia I. raped and attacked Li Yangjie,
a 25-year-old Chinese student in Dessau, Germany, in May. According to Deutsche
Welle, a German broadcaster, the male defendant is also implicated in another
rape case from 2013.
    这场审讯于11月25日开庭，调查称21岁的塞巴斯蒂安·F和20岁的齐妮亚·I于五月份在德国德绍奸杀了一位25岁的中国留学生。据德国广播公司德国之声报道，男性被告还与2013年另外一起枪击案有牵连。
    The female defendant allegedly helped her boyfriend rape the victim in an
effort to save their relationship, due to her own inability to satisfy the male
defendant’s sexual appetite. It is then alleged that the pair lured Li into an
abandoned house while she was jogging and raped her repeatedly, leaving her with
injuries that the couple believed to be fatal. When they returned to find the
girl still alive, they hid her in a pile of underbrush, according to Deutsche
Welle.
    据称，由于无法满足男性被告的性欲，女性被告为了维系他们之间的关系为她的男朋友强奸这名受害者提供了援手。这两个人诱惑正在慢跑的李洋洁进入一个废弃的屋子，并对她实施多次强奸，使其留下了致命的伤痛。德国之声称，当返回时发现这个女孩还活着的时候，他们将其藏在了一个灌木丛中。
    The hearing ended after one hour. The two defendants have opted not to
publicly address the allegations against them for the time being, AFP
reported.
    审讯在一个小时后宣告完成。法新社报道，两名被告暂时还未公开回应对他们的指控。
    Since the two defendants were under 21 when the rape took place, the court
could view the case as either a juvenile criminal offence or adult criminal
offence, which respectively boast maximum sentences of 15 years in prison or
life imprisonment, said court spokesperson Frank Straube during an interview
with AFP.
    法院发言人弗兰克·施特劳贝在接受法新社的采访时表示，由于案发时两名被告尚未年满21岁，因此法庭最终有可能按照青年刑事犯罪，也有可能按照成年人刑事案件做出判决。按照前者，谋杀罪最高判15年监禁，若按后者，则可判终身监禁。
    The trial has led to fierce online debate across Chinese social media. The
hashtag “MissingChineseGirlInGermany” has garnered over 35 million page views as
of press time, with most comments criticizing the defendants and expressing
sorrow for the victim.
    审讯在中国的社交媒体引发了激烈的网络讨论。截止发稿前，标签为“在德国失踪的中国女孩”已经有3500万次的页面游览了。
    This is not the first time that Chinese students, in particular females,
have been victims of violence and sexual abuse in Germany. In November, a
Chinese student was raped while on her way home. The Chinese consulate in
Düsseldorf confirmed the incident on Nov. 18, urging German authorities to
investigate the case. That incident also incensed the Chinese public, garnering
110 million page views under its own hashtag as of press time.
