        　　China’s Ministry of Education plans to launch a new English assessment
system based on a unified standard, according to information disclosed at a
recent seminar on language testing. The system would be deployed around the
country.

        　　There are approximately 300 million English learners currently in China.
However, there is no universal standard for the many different kinds of English
tests that exist. Experts believe that developing a standard English assessment
system is of vital importance to the subject.
