描述漫画图表句
1. As is shown in the pictures, with the rampancy of commercial fishing, the number of fishes has dramatically decreased. In the first picture, there were various kinds of fish and only one fishing?boat in 1900. On the contrary, in 1995 there was only one fish, but many fishing?boats.
2. The set of drawings above vividly depicts the destiny of a flower in different circumstances. As is shown in the first cartoon, the flower is placed in a comfortable greenhouse which shelters it from the threatening lightning and storm. With proper temperature, moisture and fertilizer, the flower is growing in full bloom. On the contrary, when removed from the greenhouse and exposed to the driving rain, the flower soon fades and withers, with the petals cast about on the ground.
3. This cartoon shows us a scene from a door?to?door promotion tour. A fat salesman has knocked upon the door of an apartment, and is trying to sell slimming tea to a thin lady by boasting that his tea “works wonders”. Having noticed that this salesman is overweight, she begins to doubt the truth of his words. So, she replies ironically, “Will it make me fat?” This lady has no intention of buying his tea due to her unpleasant experience of buying fake products in the past.
4. Pollution is becoming more and more serious all over the world. As is shown in the cartoon, two cars are giving off waste gas and three people are trying to avoid breathing in the poisonous gas by masking their faces with their hands. The poisonous gas sent off by factories, domestic appliances and automobiles has made the air unhealthy for people to breathe.
5. This picture shows two people are reading the announcement on a billboard, and being shocked at the message. This is because the billboard is advertising a “Sale of Dead Bodies.” The cartoon is a criticism of the careless use of simplified characters.
6. As is shown in the picture, trees play a vital role in water and soil conservation. In the left hand picture, people are fleeing from voracious sand dunes because they cut down all the trees. The caption reads “As the sand advances, we retreat.” In the right hand picture, the people have returned carrying tools, water, and saplings for the reforestation of the land. The caption reads: “As we advance, the sand retreats.”
7. Basically, what we see in this picture is a bird lamenting the fact that its home has been destroyed. Of course, birds usually make their homes in trees, and since there are no trees left in the picture—only the stumps, to show that the original trees have been chopped down—the bird is left without shelter. In fact, the bird has no choice but to perch on the handle of an axe, which has been used to destroy its original home.
8. In this cartoon, a hen is assuring the public that the eggs she lays are completely round, without any square corners, and that they all have shells and yokes. It seems amusing for the hen to be taking credit for doing nothing more than her duty—to lay ordinary eggs. But there is a deeper social message in this cartoon.
