1.yield产量(12次)，屈服(15次)。
Self-doubt has yielded to blind pride.2000年真题阅读text1，yield to是“向……屈服”，即“被取代”。此处使用了现在完成时，证明这种状态到现在已成型。

解析：此处理解为：最高持续产量。
2.address: 地址，写地址，演讲，讲话，处理，解决。

解析：addressing在此是谈话的意思，根据谈话对象的不同，问题也有所不同。
Boston Globe reporter Chris Reidy notes that the situation will improve only when there are comprehensive programs that address the many needs of the homeless.(2006年完型)
解析：注意comprehensive 和address的理解，波士顿环球日报记者克里斯雷迪认为只有通过全面规划解决无家可归者的各种需求，这种局面才有可能得到改善。
其次，注意真题中的熟词僻义。
1.entail=make=cause=render=underlie引导，引起(根据语境，模糊理解)，涉及，使…有…。
例如：It is becoming less clear, however, that such a theory would be a simplification, given the dimensions and universes that it might entail, nonetheless, unification of sorts remains a major goal.
解析：本句是it引导的形式主语，真正的主语是：such a theory would be a simplification, given the dimensions and universes that it might entail是定语从句，省略了which is，这样切分意群：It is becoming less clear,/ however, that such a theory /would be a simplification, /given the dimensions and universes /that it might entail,/ nonetheless, /unification of sorts /remains /a major goal. 逐个翻译意群的意思，然后再组合成通顺的汉语。
意译：然而，鉴于这样一种理论所涵盖的规模和领域，他是否还算是一种简化就越来越模糊了。尽管如此，将多样性统一化依然是主要目标。
2.entitle=give=confer=grant 给，赋予，授予…特权
例如：we are entitled to some privileges. 我们被赋予一些特权。
Some philosophers argue that rights exist only within a social contract, as part of an exchange of duties and entitlements.
解析：首先我们来切分意群：Some philosophers argue / that rights exist only within a social contract, / as part of an exchange of duties and entitlements.
然后我们在翻译时要注意：
1)主干结构是主从复合句：Some philosophers argue that...
2)that引导的是宾语从句
3)as part of.。。是宾语从句中的rights的主语补足语。
同时我们学员在翻译时要注意以下的词汇：
argue 论证
a social contract 社会契约
as part of 作为(是)……的一部分
entitlements 利益，权利
综合以上的分析我们可以意译：
有些哲学家论证说，权利只存在社会契约中，是责任与利益相交换的一部分。
3.表示“认为”的英语表达。
argue, argument, contend, contention, insist, assume, assumption, suspicion, suspect, fear, suggest, suggestion, assert, assertion, feel, agreement, advice, stress, attempt, worry, moan, complain, think, believe, maintain, hold. 这些词语的表达意思的侧重点有所不同，但是都有认为的意思。
