  First up, in Asia,
          South Korea's presidential office has called on North Korea to apologize for the provocation of planting landmines in the demilitarized zone, after an explosion injured two South Korean soldiers.
          The military forces of India and Pakistan have exchanged fire in the disputed Kashmir region, thereby violating a ceasefire agreement.
          Turning to Oceania,
          Australia's government has blocked a free vote on same-sex marriage, with Prime Minister Tony Abbott saying the issue should be put to the people following the country's next election.
          In New Zealand, 40 flag designs have been unveiled by an expert panel, as the country's citizens consider changing their national flag.
          Moving on to Africa,
          A top South Sudan rebel general has said that he and other commanders have split from their chief Riek Machar, rejecting ongoing peace talks.
          In Nigeria, an explosion at a crowded market in the north-east state of Borno has killed at least 47 people.
          And in the Middle East,
          Rebel groups and pro-government forces have agreed a 48-hour ceasefire in three Syrian towns.
          In Egypt, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has issued a decree establishing an economic zone around the Suez Canal.
          Looking to Latin America,
          Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has said that a special commission will meet with U.S. officials to present proofs that Washington's intelligence agencies are planning attacks against Caracas.
          In Argentina, a total of six pairs of candidates will stand for the country's presidency in October, after primaries left another nine couplings out of the running.
          And in Europe,
          Netherlands' investigators have said that fragments of a suspected Russian missile system have been found at the Flight MH17 crash site in Ukraine.
          Greek financial markets surged on Tuesday after Athens agreed a multi-billion-euro bailout deal with international lenders.
          And finally in North America,
          In the US, Hillary Clinton has agreed to hand over the private email server that she used as secretary of state to the FBI.
          Staying in the country, more than 20 people have been arrested and a state of emergency declared in Ferguson, amid protests marking the anniversary of the death of black teenager Michael Brown.
