Demonstrated in the chart is the result of an investigation on the number of foreigners learning Chinese from the year 2006 to 2014. As can be clearly notices, during the past nine years, the number of foreigners who choose to learn Chinese as a foreign languge rose dramatically from 30 million to 120 million, increasing by three times.
What contributes to the great influence of Chinese language? As far as I am concerned, the rapid economic development in China would be the primary reason for this change. In the past decade, an increasing number of foreigners are increasingly interested in our country, especially its culture, including the language of Chinese. Besides, Chinese market provides amounts of opportunities for both foreign individuals and businesses. So learning mandarin, no doubt, is a necessary tool to understand Chinese market and make more profits. Furthermore, Confucius Institudes in an ever-increasing number are establishing all over the world to promote Chinese language and culture, which also attracts many foreigners.
Based on the above analyses, with the prosperity of our country, the trend shown will continue in the coming years, which should be encouraged. To me, this trend reflects our national power and influence and is beneficial for both China and the whole world as well.
