考研英语（一）长难句解析系列——2011年text1

本文选自2007年9月的Commentary。原文标题是Selling Classical Music《销售古典音乐》。本文通过纽约爱乐乐团的新音乐总监Gilbert的任命引发的外界热议，引出作者自己的观点，古典音乐现场的演出受到唱片业的冲击深陷困境，能否扭转了不利局面受到深深的怀疑。全文长难句数量较少，也不难理解。语法结构基本上都是历年常见语法现象，其中定语从句和宾语从句较多，难度不是很大。下面就其中的典型例句进行分析：
　　【典型例句1】：The decision of the New York Philharmonic to hire Alan Gilbert as its next music director has been the talk of the classical-music world ever since the sudden announcement of his appointment in 2009.
　　【例句解析】：本句的主语是The decision,其后的介词of the New York Philharmonic为后置定语，而动词不定式to hire Alan Gilbert as its next music director则为同位语，对其内容进行解释说明，其中hire…as…意为“聘请…担任…”。由于该句的时间状语是由ever since引导的，故句子的谓语动词用现在完成时态。
　　【例句释义】： 纽约爱乐乐团决定聘请Alan Gilbert作为下一任的音乐总监，这一消息自从2009年突然被宣布之日起就在古典音乐界引起了热议。
　　【典型例句2：】As a description of the next music director of an orchestra that has hitherto been led by musicians like Gustav Mahler and Pierre Boulez, that seems likely to have struck at least some Times readers as faint praise.
　　【例句解析】：本句的主干是：…that seems likely to have struck …readers as faint praise。主语that是用来指代文中Tommasini对Gilbert的评价。句首是as引导的状语，在该状语中包含一个that引导的定语从句，修饰说明先行词orchestra，该定语从句是被动语态，其中Gustav Mahler and Pierre Boulez举例说明musicians，
　　【难点点拨】：description描述、描写;orchestra管弦乐队、乐团;faint 苍白的、模糊的;praise赞美、称赞
　　【例句释义】：这样去描述这个乐团的下一位指挥，至少对于《纽约时报》的部分读者而言，似乎是一种苍白的表扬。
　　【典型例句3】：To be sure, he performs an impressive variety of interesting compositions, but it is not necessary for me to visit Avery Fisher Hall, or anywhere else, to hear interesting orchestral music.
　　【例句解析】：本句由but连接的两个分句组成，第一个分句中，句首to be sure为插入语。不定式作为插入语的结构在英语中有很多，他们在句首起强调作用，第二个分句中，it为形式主语，真正的主语是不定式复合结构to visit Avery Fisher Hall, or anywhere else, to hear interesting orchestral music，其中to hear interesting orchestral music作visit的目的状语。
　　【例句释义】：但是我能确定的是，他能表演出很多令人印象深刻的有趣的乐章，但是我没有必要非得去Avery Fisher Hall或者其他地方听有趣的交响乐演出。
　　【典型例句4】：The widespread availability of such recordings has thus brought about a crisis in the institution of the traditional classical concert.
　　【例句解析】： The widespread availability作句子主语，主干部分到：has brought about a crisis，介词短语in the institution与of the traditional classical concert修饰crisis。
　　【难点点拨】：widespread普遍的、广泛的;availability可用性、实用性;bring about引起
　　【例句释义】：听众还能够随意选择听唱片的时间和地点，这些唱片的普及给传统的古典音乐会带来了危机。
　　【典型例句5】：Gilbert’s own interest in new music has been widely noted: Alex Ross, a classical-music critic, has described him as a man who is capable of turning the Philharmonic into “a markedly different, more vibrant organization.”
　　【例句解析】：主句的主干部分是：…interest…has been…noted，为被动语态。冒号后的部分是对前面主句的举例说明，该部分主干结构是Alex Ross…has described him as a man…主语Alex Ross后是对其进行解释说明的同位语，其主干结构为：Alex Ross…has described him，宾语him后接宾语补足语as a man…该宾语补足语中，who引导的定语从句限定修饰man。
　　【难点点拨】： be capable of有能力的，能胜任的;turn…into…“把…变成”
　　【例句释义】：Gilbert对新曲目的情趣已经受到广泛的关注：古典音乐评论家Alex Ross如此描述：他能够把爱乐乐团变成一个“与众不同的、更加有活力的组织”。
　　总之，2011年该篇阅读理解，词汇、长难句总体不难，数量不多，句型结构较为简单，对背景知识的要求不太高，没有出现复杂的句型和难理解的词汇。但是，值得强调的是，长难句的考察仍然侧重对于句子主干成分和修饰成分的分析，尤其是定语和宾语从句的理解。
