As is shown in thepictures, withtherampancy ofcommercial fishing, the number offishes dramatically
decreased. In picture one, therewere various kinds of fish and only one fishing-boat in 1900. On the
contrary, in 1995 there was only one fish, but many fishing-boats.
The purpose of thepictures is to show us that due attention has to be paid to the reduction of ocean
resources. Owing toover-fishing the number of fishes has obviously dropped. If we let this situation go as it
is, we donot know where fish will be in the future. By that time, our environment will suffer a great
destruction.
Therefore,it is imperative for us to take drastic measures. For one thing, weshould appeal to our
authoritiesto make strict laws to control commercial fishing. For another, weshould enhance the
awareness ofpeople that the ocean resources are vital to us. Only in this way can weprotect our ocean
resources. Also Ibelieve that we humans can overcome this difficulty, and we will have abrighter future.

world commercial fishing. There were few fishing ships on thesea in 1900 when an enormous number of fish
swam freely; in contrast, in 1995 a large fleet of shipswere endeavoring to search for the only fish in the sea.
The tremendouscontrast presented by the drawing alarmingly reminds us of the detrimental deterioration
of oceanic ecosystem by the greediness of mankind. The industry of commercialfishing had undergone a
booming expansion along with the growing public awareness of the meritsof seafood, which made fishing
unusually profitable. Lacking knowledge regarding the significance of ecological balance, businessmen sent
out ships that insatiably chased fishes and thus posed a severethreat to all life in the sea. However, thistrend
may in turn endanger humankind.
To prevent theexhaustion of ocean resources,governments should unite to work out effective measures
against commercial fishing. For instance, there should be limitations on fishing time and location so as to
reduce the exploitation of the sea. Moreover, people also call for laws and regulations that are responsible for
punishing excessive fishing. Last but not theleast, the public attachment to the importance of balance
preservation would play a decisive role in saving ocean species from extinction.
