2.逻辑连贯性
英语文章强调句与句、段与段之间的逻辑性和流畅性,强调句句相联、段段相接。用于加强句与句之间连贯性的方法不少,但最常用的方法是使用过渡词和代词。“英语知识运用”部分考查对上下文逻辑关系理解的考题比重在不断加大,这在最近几年的试卷中已有所体现。
过渡词是指在文章中那些用来说明上下文关系或前后意思之间关系的连词、副词或短语,它们使段落之间、句子之间以及句子各成分之间的关系连贯、符合逻辑。考生应对表示不同逻辑关系的过渡词非常熟悉,希望考生能熟记。 常用的过度词有以下几类:
1)表示转折/让步关系:but, however, yet,nevertheless, though, on the other hand, while, nonetheless, whereas, although,despite, in spite of , still
2)表示顺承关系:in addition, furthermore, moreover, besides, also,what‘s more, not only…but also, and, too, likewise
3)表示因果关系:because, because of, since, as for since, nowthat, in that, on account of, due to, owing to, on the ground of, as a result,accordingly, consequently, therefore, thus, hence
4)表示比较或对比关系:similarly, in the same way, likewise, while,whereas, by contrast, in contrast to, on the contrary, on the one hand…on the other hand,just as, like, unlike, in the same way, rather than
5)表示举例与例证关系:for example, for instance, as a case in point,namely, specially, such as, as follows, take…for example
6)表示强调关系:in fact, indeed, in particular, especially,particularly, above all, most important of all, even worse, without doubt,undoubtedly, certainly, surely
7)表示并列关系:and, or 3.固定搭配及词组
词汇题的另一大命题重点是考查固定搭配和习惯搭配。这类题常常不能通过理论分析搞清楚,需要靠平时阅读来增强语感及多记词汇的正确方法等。在做这类题目时,考生应根据语感,在本句中找线索,作出正确选择。如四个选项中的词为动词,就要注意它与前后名词的搭配(主谓搭配、动宾搭配等);如四个选项中的词为介词,就要注意它与后面的名词是否构成介词短语等搭配;如为副词,则要注意与它所修饰的动词、形容词或另一个副词的搭配;如为名词,就要注意它与前后动词、介词是否构成搭配。大纲中虽然常用词组数量相对来讲并不多,但要掌握所有词组的意思和用法,绝非易事。特别当一个词可以与许多词搭配构成词组时,或一个词组有几个不同的含义时,考生会很难牢记每个词组和词组的各种含义。如果让考生说出每个词组的意思,考生会感到有难度。如果让考生说出任何一个词组的所有含义,恐怕更难。因此,要掌握好词组及其用法是要下一番功夫的。
如2004年考题:
Families have also_____changesthese years. More families consist of one parent household or two workingparents.

原文此处意为:“这些年很多家庭都经历了不上的变化”。所要选择的词必须能和change搭配,四个选项中只有[D] experienced能和change搭配,意为“经历变化”。此题最大的干扰项是[C] undertaken可以和task, post, experiment等连用,但是一般不能和change连用。 4. 语法知识
现在的全国研究生入学考试去掉了“结构与词汇”部分。考生可能认为不必再学语法了。这是一种误解。语法知识在理解英文的过程中起着至关重要的作用,在帮助考生理解上下文的内容和逻辑关系方面也是非常必要的。只要出现语法结构类题,就往往与倒装句、比较句、定语从句、同位语从句和平行结构等有关。
如2004年考题:
Children are likely to have less supervision at home_____was common in the traditional familystructure.
[A] than [B]that [C] which [D] as
一般来说,比较级常常表示大小、多少、好坏等,如:He is taller that her, but she is brighter than him. (他比她高,但她比他聪明。) 该考题比较的双方是“儿童目前在家所得到的监督”和“传统家庭通常能够提供的监管”。这句话完整的说法是:…children are likelyto have less supervision at home than was common in the traditional family…
本句的特殊之处在于,在less…than结构中,than既是比较级的连接词,又是后一句话的先行词,用来指代supervision(that[supervision] was common in the traditional family)。其他选项都忽视了这句话是比较级的句子,因此都无法将句子补充完整。
