As is elaborately depicted by the drawing above, a couple has just finished their dinner, leaving lots of dishes on the table. But when the waiter packaged their dishes, the woman refused, saying “We are rich now, so we do not need to take away leftovers”. This phenomenon can easily be found anywhere in our daily life.
Obviously, the picture is intended to reveal the phenomenon of extravagant consumption. A considerable majority of Chinese people are used to ordering too much dishes than needed. Symptoms of waste in our society are not difficult to find. Lots of foods on table which could not be eaten at a time are thrown away casually. Besides, new clothes deemed out of fashion are also discarded by people. Last but not least, people without habits of turning off the faucet or power switch in time abound in our life, they waste water and electricity without even realizing it.
To serve as responsible stewards of the planet, we must promote and popularize a low carbon life among the public from every detail in our daily life. We must change the past practice of sacrificing long-term environmental health for short-term rapid economic development, and shift to developing green economy, circular economy and low carbon economy. All these effective measures can help us to reach harmony between development of the society and health of the nature.

As can be seen from this vivid picture, a candle burning prosperously is holding a big book, smiling with much satisfaction. Thanks to the book in its hand, it seems as if it is brighter and brighter. What an instructive and thought-provoking sight it is!
What the cartoon seems to convey to us may turn out to be the implication: fortune favors the man who values book-reading. Undoubtedly, through book-reading, one can absorb the essences of thoughts and ideas of the greatest minds or elites in various cultural areas. Furthermore, reading books is also a process of accumulating fundamental knowledge for further invention and innovation, which is particularly essential to youngsters. Let’s consider Jordan Hill who was an outstanding philosopher. He had advocated book-reading all through his life, admitting that “magical books had brought me many sweet fruits during my pursuit for success.” Similarly, such is the same case with our personal study.
From my perspective, it is book-reading that leads us to attain the ultimate dream of success, for book cannot simply make our knowledge profound and extensive, but enlighten our thoughts. And accordingly, it is high time that we should become aware of this and cultivate the habit of reading books. If you intend to be a better and qualified contributor to our national construction of science and technology, you ought to act up right now!

  追星
This drawing symbolically depicts people’s imitating mentality, commonly known as star-worshiping, especially the young. The old bird is painting her idol---a plane with her own face. And the young bird said,” Add me to the painting please, mom.” Both of them hope to become like their idols, flying fast and high. What the implied meaning of this cartoon is that individuals in society prefer to imitate someone else especially some popular stars, such as Michael Jackson, Andy Lau, etc.
Since every coin has two sides, pros and cons co-exist in star-worshiping. On one hand, some celebrities have devoted themselves in their careers and gain good fame and great achievements. Take Professor Yuan Longping for an example, he works extremely hard to cultivate the hybrid rice and finally makes it. If teenagers put Professor Yuan on a pedestal, they must be encouraged to work hard in their own study. On the other hand, with a blind love for their idols, teenagers firmly believe that their choices are the best. As a result, the stars’ clothes, hairstyles and hobbies, as well as their behaviors in public, are closely observed or followed, though, to some extent, they may be considered improper or even ridiculous.
In my opinion, having idols is not a bad thing. However, we should make it clear who are the real “heroes”. As far as I am concerned, the real heroes are those who are making the most contributions to our society, such as teachers, doctors and scientists, who set us good examples. As students, we should learn from them. Only in this way can we become useful persons in the future.
