考研英语（二）历年真题阅读要点之2015-Text 1（一）

Researchers measured people’s cortisol, which is a stress marker, while they were at work and while they were at home and found it higher at what is supposed to be a place of refuge.
suggest“表明”，这个词常见含义“建议”，也可以表示“认为”；contrary to“与...相反”；stressed“有压力的”。新的研究与大部分研究相反，换句话说，大部分研究的结果与这句话people are actually more stressed at home than at work正好相反。measure“测量”；cortisol生僻词汇，不认识无所谓，其后就是对它的解释说明；marker“标志，标示物”；while“当...时”，引导时间状语从句；be supposed to be可以指“应该是”；refuge“避难所”。
“Further contradicting conventional wisdom, we found that women as well as men have lower levels of stress at work than at home,” writes one of the authors, Sarah Damaske. In fact women even say they feel better at work, She notes. “It is men, not women, who report being happier at home than at work.” Another surprise is that the findings hold true for both those with children and without, but more so for nonparents. This is why people who work outside the home have better health.
contradict“否定，与...矛盾”；conventional“传统的”，反义词unconventional“非传统的”；wisdom在此结合语境，可以表示“观点”；as well as相当于and；level“水平”；in fact“事实上”；note可以表示“特别提到，指出”；it is... that...为强调句型；surprise“出人意料的事情”；hold true for“适用于”；more so“更是如此，尤其如此”。由这两句话“It is men, not women, who report being happier at home than at work.” Another surprise is that the findings hold true for both those with children and without, but more so for nonparents.可知，没有孩子的丈夫在家里最为快乐。
