Mr Branstad was seen entering Trump Tower in New York on Tuesday for talks
with the president-elect.
据悉，本周二有人目击到布朗斯塔德进入了纽约川普塔，和美国当选总统川普进行谈话。
He called Chinese President Xi Jinping a "long-time friend" when Mr Xi
visited Iowa before becoming Chinese leader.
习近平成为中国领导人之前曾经访问爱荷华州，当时布朗斯塔德称呼习近平为“多年老友”。
After Bloomberg first reported the nomination, which requires Senate
confirmation, Beijing responded by calling Mr Branstad an "old friend".
当彭博社率先报道这一提名之后(正式任命还需要参议院的确认)，中国回应称布朗斯塔德为“老朋友”。
"We welcome him to play a greater role in advancing the development of
China-US relations," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang.
中国外交部发言人陆慷表示说：“我们欢迎他在推进中美关系发展方面发挥更大的作用。”
However, Mr Branstad’s spokesman said reports of the nomination were
"premature".
但是，布朗斯塔德的发言人称关于提名的报道过于“草率”。
Mr Trump has also reportedly tapped General John Kelly to run the
Department of Homeland Security, according to US media.
据美国媒体报道，川普还提名约翰·凯利将军负责美国国土安全部工作。
Mr Kelly would be the third general Mr Trump has selected for a high-level
position in his administration.
凯利将是川普挑选的在其政府中担任要职的第三位将军。
Mr Branstad’s appointment is seen as key at a time of trade tensions
between the world’s two biggest economies.
在此世界最大两个经济体之间贸易紧张的时刻，任命布朗斯塔德为美国驻华大使被视为是一项关键举措。
Mr Trump has accused China of "raping" the US by devaluing its currency and
giving itself an unfair exporting advantage.
川普曾经指责中国通过人民币贬值“掠夺”了美国，使得自己获得了一个不公平的出口优势。
There has also been a political row over a phone call between Taiwan’s
leader and Mr Trump.
而之前因为川普和蔡英文直接通电，中美之间也引发了一场不小的政治纠纷。
The call broke decades of US diplomatic protocol and prompted a protest
from China.
这次直接通电打破了美国几十年的外交协议，引发了中国的抗议。
Although the Trump team said it was spontaneous, there is growing evidence
that it was planned weeks in advance.
尽管川普的团队表示称那是临时起意，但是越来越多的证据表明此次通电是提前好几周就计划好了的。
