CHONGQING, Nov. 10 -- Japan’s former prime minister Yukio Hatoyama
apologized for his country’s bombardment of southwest China’s Chongqing during
World War II at the 2016 China International Friendship Cities Conference
Thursday.
重庆，11月10日电--在本周四举行的2016中国国际友好城市大会上，日本前首相鸠山由纪夫为二战日本轰炸重庆表示道歉。
Hatoyama made the apology at the opening of the conference in Chongqing,
the wartime capital of the Kuomintang government, where Japanese air-strikes
from 1939 to 1941 left more than 30,000 people dead or injured.
鸠山由纪夫在重庆举行的大会开幕式上道了歉。重庆是国民党政府的战时首都，日本从1939年到1941年期间对重庆进行了空袭，造成3万多人死亡或受伤。
In his speech, Hatoyama criticized Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for
inflating the "China threat", noting that such remarks will bring tension to the
region. He said that an East Asian Community with China, Japan, South Korea and
ASEAN at the center would reduce nationalism.
在讲话中，鸠山由纪夫批评了日本首相安倍晋三鼓吹“中国威胁”的做法，指出这样的言论会导致地区局势紧张。鸠山由纪夫指出，一个由中日韩三国和东盟为中心的东亚共同体将会减少民族主义。
Friendship cities are important in communication between countries, he
said, adding that political, economic and cultural exchanges alleviate conflict
and promote integration.
鸠山指出，在两国的交流沟通中，友好城市非常重要，并且表示说政治、经济、文化交流可以缓解冲突、促进一体化的发展。
Over 700 representatives from around the world joined this year’s
conference.
来自全球各地超过700名代表参加了今年的中国国际友好城市大会。
