the creationism/evolution debate其实是省略if的虚拟条件句，相当于if reason were the only judge
in the creationism/evolutiondebate。
考点归纳：如果虚拟条件句中的谓语部分含有were、had或should，可以将其放在句首，省略连词if，变成倒装句——这就叫做虚拟语气的倒装，是考研英语阅读文章中常常出现的。

注意：在虚拟语气的从句中，动词be的过去时态一律用were，不用was。

如果他在这儿，一切都会好的。
