This seems a justification for neglect of those in need, and a
rationalization of exploitation, of the superiority of those at the top and the
inferiority of those at the bottom.
词汇要点：
1) justification //n. 理由
2) rationalization //n. 合理，合理化
3) exploitation //n. 剥削，利用
4) superiority //n. 优越，优等
5) inferiority //n. 低下，劣等
结构要点：
1) 主干是This seems a justification…, anda rationalization…;
2) 后面的of exploitation，和of the superiority…and
theinferiority…这两个of介词短语都修饰rationalization。
汉译逻辑要点：
1) This seems a justification中的代词This指的是引号里面的内容“Circumstancesdo not make a
person, they reveal him”。所以，可以直接翻译为“这种说法”。justification
for…，可以转变成为动词来翻译：为…找借口，为…做辩护。
2) those in need是in need介词短语修饰those，要翻译为“那些需要帮助的人”，一般是指“穷人”。
3) and a rationalization是and并列的名词，作seems的并列表语，按照前面“为…做辩护”的结构翻译：为…找理由。
4) the superiority of those at the top是指“上层人的优越”，the inferiority of those
at the bottom是指“底层人的卑微”。
参考译文：
这种说法似乎是在为忽视贫困者的行为做辩护，为剥削、上层人群的优越和底层人群的卑微找理由。
