Shortlists for job interviews, election ballot papers, lists of conference
speakers and attendees: all tend to be drawn upalphabetically, and their
recipients lose interest as they plough through them.
词汇：
shortlist //n. 入围名单，最后候选人名单
ballot //n. 选票，选票权
attendee //n. 参会者，出席者
recipient //n. 接受者
plough //v. 犁田，耕田
plough through // 缓慢地费力地穿过，或者缓慢地费力地在某方面取得进展
结构：
Shortlistsfor job interviews, election ballot papers, lists of conference
speakers and attendees(并列名词短语作all的同位语): //all tend to be drawn up
alphabetically(第一个并列句), //and their recipients lose interest
(and连接的第二个并列句的主干)//as they plough through them(as时间状语从句).
译文：
求职面试的最终名单、选举投票的决选名单、会议发言和参会者的名单等等往往都是按字母表先后排列的，拿到这些名单的人要费劲地从头看到尾，逐渐兴趣索然。
翻译思路：名词动词化
前面我曾经讲过这种名词的动词化，很生动。这里plough就是另一个例子。大家体会一下，plough变成动词以后，plough through
这些人名单。想想，多费劲啊，犁田一样。
本句话还有一个需要注意的，代词their和them指代的是all包括的对象，就是前面那一大堆各种各样的名单。所以，their
recipients就是指“拿到这些名单的人”。
