考生应能掌握5500左右的词汇以及相关词组。除掌握词汇的基本含义外，考生还应掌握词汇之间的词义关系，掌握词汇之间的搭配关系，掌握词汇生成的基本知识。
1. pinch
vt. 捏，掐；挤痛，夹痛；使（植物）枯萎，凋谢；使紧缺，节制；
vi. 挤痛，压痛；吝惜，节约；
n. 匮乏；少量，一撮；困苦；
[例句]She pinched his arm as hard as she could.
她使出浑身的力气拧他的胳膊。
2. plausible
adj.貌似真实的；貌似有理的；花言巧语的；有眉有眼；
[例句]A more plausible explanation would seem to be that people are fed up with the Conservative government.
貌似更加合理的解释似乎是，人们已经厌倦了保守党政府。
3. plead
vi. 恳求；辩论；
vt. 以…为理由；陈述案情；申辩，认罪，辩护；申诉，答辩，为…辩护；
[例句]The lady pleaded with her daughter to come back home.
这位女士恳求她的女儿回家。
4. pledge
n. 保证，誓言；[法] 抵押权；公约；（表示友谊的）干杯；
vt. 使发誓，保证；典当，抵押；许诺；用…担保；以誓言约束；向…祝酒；
[例句]The meeting ended with a pledge to step up cooperation between the six states of the region.
会议以承诺加快这一地区六国间的合作而结束。
5. plot
n. 地基，基址图；（戏剧、小说等的）情节；一块地；测算表；
vt. 密谋；以图表画出，制图；把…分成小块；为（文学作品）设计情节；
vi. 设计作品情节；标示于图表上；密谋，暗中策划；
[例句]Security forces have uncovered a plot to overthrow the government.
安全部队揭露了一起推翻政府的阴谋。
6. plug
n. 插头；塞子；消防栓；（内燃机的）火花塞；
vt. 插上插头；插入；以（塞子）塞住；〈俚〉枪击，殴打；
[例句]She put the plug in the sink and filled it with cold water.

7. plunge
vt. 用力插入；使陷入；

n. 投入，陷入；游泳，跳水；
[例句]The government's political and economic reforms threaten to plunge the country into chaos.
政府的政治和经济改革可能会使国家陷入混乱局面。
8. pocket

adj.放在口袋里的；小的，迷你的；金钱上的；

10. poll

11. pool

[例句]During winter, many people swim and the pool is crowded.
冬季来游泳的人很多，泳池人满为患。
12. portable
adj.轻便的；手提的；
n. 手提式打字机；
[例句]There was a little portable television switched on behind the bar.
柜台后面有一台开着的便携式小型电视机。
