考生应能掌握5500左右的词汇以及相关词组。除掌握词汇的基本含义外，考生还应掌握词汇之间的词义关系，掌握词汇之间的搭配关系，掌握词汇生成的基本知识。
1. despise
vt. 鄙视，看不起；
[例句]I can never, ever forgive him. I despise him.
我永远不会原谅他。我鄙视他。
2. detach
vt. 派遣；分离，拆开；分派；使超然；
[例句]It helps them detach themselves from their problems and become more objective.
这有助于他们从所面临的问题中跳出来，变得更客观一些。
3. detain
vt. 耽搁；留住，阻住；拘留，扣留；
[例句]The act allows police to detain a suspect for up to 48 hours.
该法令允许警方将嫌疑犯扣押最多48小时。
4. detect
