考研英语阅读理解——熟词生义(八)——中公考研刘欢
考研英语大纲明确规定考查考生根据语境猜测生词难句的能力，生词包含两种情况，其一，不超过3%的生词(超纲词)，其二，熟词生义现象。同时，考研英语对熟词生义的考查不仅仅局限于词义句意题，在传统阅读理解的文章中，也经常出现熟词生义现象，干扰考生对文章内容的正确理解。所以，了解并积累熟词生义现象对考研英语获得较好成绩很有必要。现以阅读理解真题出现过的熟词生义现象为例，进行详解。
For the past several years，the Sunday newspaper supplement Parade has featured a column called “Ask Marilyn.”People are invited to query Marilyn VOS Savant.Who at age 10 had tested at a mental level of someone about 23 years old;that gave her an IQ of 228-the highest score ever recorded.IQ tests ask you to complete verbal and visual analogies，to envision paper after it has been folded and cut，and to deduce numerical sequences.among other similar tasks.So it is a bit confusing when Vos Savant fields such queries from the average Joe(whose IQ is 100) as，What’s the difference between love and fondness? Or what is the nature of luck and coincidence? It’s not obvious how the capacity to visualize objects and to figure out numerical patterns suits one to answer questions that have eluded some of the best poets and philosophers.(para1,text 2,2007)
文中划线句里出现的field一词常见意思为“领域，领地;运动场;使上场”， 本句field词性为动词，如果译为“使上场(参赛)”，与上下文语境里提及的令人困惑及疑问连用，不符合逻辑。所以，此处field熟词生义为“成功应付”，本句句意为“当小沃斯莎凡特成功回答了平凡人(智商为100)所提问的爱与喜欢的区别是什么，幸运与巧合的本质是什么?，这令人们感到困惑。

fetch常见意思为“ 取来，拿来”，但是根据本段上下文，如果fetch译成常见的意思，会导致句意理解障碍，此处，熟词生义为“售得，卖得”。本句句意为“这些规则指出他们是以第三方愿意支付的价格进行评估而不是按照管理者们想要售得的价格进行估价的。”
Paid and owned media are controlled by marketers promoting their own products. For earned media,such marketers act as the initiator for users‘ responses. But in some cases,one marketer’s owned media become another marketer‘s paid media for instance,when an e-commerce retailer sells ad space on its Web site. We define such sold media as owned media whose traffic is so strong that other organizations place their content or e-commerce engines within that environment.
Promote一词常见意思为“促进，提升”，文中划线句中的promote与market 搭配使用，熟词生义为“推销”更符合文章逻辑，句意为“付费媒体和自有媒体受到想推销自己产品的市场营销者的控制。”
Traffic 常见词义为“交通，运输”，本句中，traffic所在语境为媒体，电子环境，所以，本句中traffic为“访问量，流量”。句意为“我们把这种售卖媒体看作是自有媒体。，这种媒体的访问量很大，以至于其他的组织愿意把产品广告或者电子商务引擎放在这里去推广。”
